According to GiantFreakinRobot, Christopher Nolan is working on a horror film that will be the director’s first foray into the horror genre, having hinted in several previous occasions that horror is something he might be interested in.
Christopher Nolan has publicly expressed his desire to create a horror film in the near future. In a Q&A session for Tenet with Fandango’s Movie Clips, the director said that “horror is definitely a genre I’m interested in” and “the most purely visceral” film genre. He also compared the elements from the war film he made in 2017 Dunkirk and the techniques employed in more horror-focused storytelling.
In an interview in 2010, in The Daily Telegraph, the director explained that Inception was initially pitched to Warner Bros. as a horror film shortly after Nolan finished The Insomnia Project. The film was put aside and, by the time Warner Bros. gave the green light to the project it was transformed into a science-fiction action film.
Christopher Nolan Nolan has highlighted the films of Ridley Scott including the classic 1979 sci-fi thriller hybrid Alien as sources of inspiration. Nolan praised his late friend Rutger Hauer in the 1986 film The Hitcher, declaring that the film features Hauer’s “finest as well as most famous Euro-psycho performance ” this next to Blade Runner.
Furthermore, GiantFreakinRobot states that director Christopher Nolan wants to collaborate with the controversy-plagued Will Smith on his next project. The director was reportedly contemplating working with the Men in Black film’s star in the film Inception which was previously mentioned as the director’s very first horror film.
