India’s biggest blockbuster of the year, RRR, a film written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, and directed by S.S. Rajamouli, has been well-received all around the world and has now been confirmed to be getting a sequel.
Featuring Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. in the lead roles, the film follows real-life freedom fighters Komaram Bheem (NTR Jr.) and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan), who are fast friends in the film who fight a common enemy, the British colonizers. A real action romp, with scenes that will take your breath away.
The film roared to success in India, becoming the third highest-grossing film thereafter Dangal and Baahubali 2. Now, it seems like the director, S.S. Rajamouli is leveraging this opportunity to give fans a much more extravagant sequel.
In a recent interview with Variety, S.S. Rajamouli, the director of “RRR,” confirmed that his father, the screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad, is currently working on a story for the sequel to RRR.
At a screening over the weekend in Chicago, Rajamouli discussed the sequel. “My father is the story writer for all my films. We discussed a bit about [‘RRR 2’] and he’s working on the story,” he told.
“RRR,” which had a reported budget of $72 million, has been a tremendous success since its debut in March.
Earlier in April, NTR Jr. raised the possibility of a sequel to “RRR,” implying that it wasn’t out of the question, as writer Prasad had recently informed the Indian press.
