Only weeks after hitting 100M subscribers on YouTube, Mr.Beast has officially overtaken PewDiePie as YouTube’s most subscribed solo influencer.
In recent years, Mr. Beast Jimmy Donaldson has grown into one of the most popular YouTube personalities on the platform. He celebrated with a live stream for his fans on July 28 when he surpassed his goal of 100 million subscribers.
“I appreciate every single one of you that watches the videos. This is literally all I’ve ever done with my life,” he expressed in the live stream, furthering: “All I do is wake up every day and obsess over how to make the best videos possible. It’s all I care about. It’s the only thing that’s ever really made me happy.”
On November 11, Mr. Beast reached 111 million YouTube subscribers, according to analytics tracker SocialBlade.
In response to reaching this new milestone, Jimmy shared a screenshot of his current subscriber count on Twitter on November 12.
“WHAT ARE THE ODDS I RANDOMLY OPEN YOUTUBE TO 111,111,111 SUBSCRIBERS AT EXACTLY 11:11 ON NOVEMBER 11th???” he tweeted.
Following this, he said he bought 1,111 lottery tickets as a way of celebrating, posting a picture of what appears to be a stack of tickets for the “North Carolina PowerBall” lottery.
“I just bought 1,111 lottery tickets, something is telling me I’ll win” he tweeted.
Now, he has overtaken long-time Swedish creator PewDiePie as the most subscribed content creator on Youtube.
Youtuber Airrack, who is friends with Mr. Beast and often collaborates with him, tweeted following the takeover: “The end of a YouTube era but no one deserves this more than @MrBeast.”
To which Mr.Beast responded: “You got some catching up to do 😉“
The YouTube star PewDiePie, also known as Felix Kjellberg, began by posting gaming content on the platform in 2010, but since then he has expanded into lifestyle videos, challenges, and commentary. In August 2019, He reached the milestone of 100 million subscribers as an individual creator, becoming the first solo YouTuber to do so.
Several months later, Kjellberg announced he was planning to take a break from YouTube after citing burnout as the reason and has since then been posting less frequently on YouTube. Since May, he has been sharing vlog-style updates with fans regarding his life in a new country, having moved from Brighton, England, to Japan.
In August, Kjellberg said Donaldson was likely to overtake him as YouTube’s most subscribed individual, saying he believes Donaldson “deserves it.”
“Come on, I’ve been retired for like two years now. I can’t wait for it to be over,” he said.
It should be noted that, although Donaldson and Kjellberg are YouTube’s most subscribed to individuals, there are five non-influencer channels that have more subscribers, which is topped by the Indian music label T-Series, which has 229 million subscribers.
