In an interview with Screen Rant, Cameron shared the detailed notes he wrote as he created his world in Pandora prior to tackling the script that he wrote. Cameron revealed that he had written more than 800 pages of notes and handed his writers the notes to go through before they set out to work on Avatar: The Way of Water.
James Cameron reveals that he wrote hundreds of pages worth of 800 notes when developing and creating his world Pandora before he let the writers’ space to collaborate alongside Cameron in the creation of the film Avatar: The Way of Water. Cameron has been working on his world of Pandora since several years, and was developing the first Avatar approximately 15 years before that. Cameron has now created a story that will be told over at least three additional films at the very least. In this series the attention to detail and world-building has produced a truly distinct world and culture to discover.
Collider’s Perri Nemiroff recently spoke to Cameron about his process of writing and the process of having all screenplays for the upcoming films written prior to going into filming on The Way of Water and Avatar 4 could be the most craziest movie in the entire series. Cameron stated that he plans to write the entire series prior to the start of filming of The Way of Water:
The screenplay of The Way Of Water was written by Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, who also composed Jurassic World, the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy, and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
The Way of Water features Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder along with Dileep Rao in the first film. It also brings together Cameron alongside his Titanic Star Kate Winslet. Cameron spoke about the things about Avatar 4:
“I can’t tell you the details, but all I can say is that when I turned in the script for 2, the studio gave me three pages of notes. And when I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes, so I was getting better. When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, creative executive over the films wrote me an email that said, ‘Holy fuck.’ And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’ And she said, ‘Those are the notes.’ Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?”
Cameron has also stated in Avatar 4. the following “you think you know what it’s about, and then, oh no, you don’t,” and “I hope I get to make that film, is what I’m saying.” If Cameron’s previous successes are the case that there’s no problem with those who want to see more of the films Cameron is creating and we’ll hopefully be able to watch this crazy fourth film.
Avatar The Way of Water will be released in cinemas on the 16th of December.
