The sole purpose of having a good blog is to increase readership (read audience). If the audience does not increase, then the blog will just remain a hobby project and your ultimate aim of generating income from it will take a side place. As bloggers, we market our blog on various platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn to get more eyeballs from our connections and friends. However, friends and family can help us grow the blog only to a limited extent.
The greatest boost to your blog will be from the traffic generated through SEO. SEO though is a long-term thing and requires consistent effort, but it is one of the most rewarding ways of generating traffic on your blog.
For your SEO efforts to succeed, it is important to analyze the results and data of your Google Search Console. Google Search Console (GSC) is the new version of the earlier known as Google WebMaster tools. It is a free and easy to use tool which can be used by anyone to crunch the data about the organic audience of your website.

Optimize Results with High Impressions but with low clicks :
This is a low hanging fruit. It means these pages are already getting the eyeballs from your audience, but they are not finding it click-worthy.
How to Check this :
1. Open Google Search Console
2. Click on Performance in the Sidebar
3. Go to Pages
4. Sort Descending by Impressions (Largest to smallest)
5. Among the top 5 or top 10 check which one has lower CTRs (Click through Rate)
How to Improve Click-through Rate?
- Improve your title such that it catches the attention of your audience
- The Meta text should be insightful and should generate the interest of your audience to click on it.
Optimize pages Which are on Page 2 :
The next to-do item in the ease of doability is to optimize the pages which are showing on page 2 of the search result. With a little effort, you can move it to Page 1.
How to check this?
1.Open Google Search Console
2. Click on Performance in the Sidebar
3. Go to Pages
4. Sort Ascending by Positions (Smallest to Largest)
Choose the ones which are on position 9,10,11 and work to get them to page 1. On page 1, there will be automatically a surge in impressions, clicks, and audience.
How to Improve The Position?
- Improve your title such that it catches the attention of your audience
- The Meta text should be insightful and should generate the interest of your audience to click on it.
Find Good Ranking Keywords but the Content is Old :
There might be a case where the keyword is Ranking well, and there is content also matching that keyword on your blog. However, the content is old and is no longer relevant to your audience. Although you will see a good amount of traffic coming to your website in this case, the audience might not be loyal since the data is old and will bounce off quickly.
How to check this?
1.Open Google Search Console
2. Click on Performance in the Sidebar
3. Go to Pages
4. Sort Ascending by Positions (Smallest to Largest)
Now, among those pages which rank in the top 8, check which all need improvement in content manually. Since in most cases, you are the author, you will know which content is older and needs a revamp.
Find Good Ranking Keywords But The Content is Not Present :
Similar to the above, there is another possibility that some of your pages are ranking for a keyword but the actual content on those pages is totally different.
For example, for one of the keywords “Online Python course”, the corresponding page which was getting displayed was related to a text-based python course. Now, a user who is searching for an online course has totally different than one who wants to have a text-based course. So we created another page for the “Online Python course” which satiated the need of those who were searching for this keyword.
The approach is similar to above, sort the ranks, check the pages, and keyword combination, the ones which are not matching need to be changed.
Improve Internal linking
One of the hidden treasures to improve your blog’s SEO is by leveraging internal linking. Every blog will have some high performing posts and some low performing posts. High performing posts are those which are high on traffic, clicks, Ranks, etc. These are your posts with high authority.
By Linking your low performing posts, from your high performing posts, you can improve the performance of the low performing posts as well. It is recommended to first link the post which is ranking on page 2 and page 3 rather than the ones which are ranking at later pages to achieve the full potential of this strategy.
These are some of the ways by which you can use Google Search Console to increase the traffic on your page. This is of course not an exhaustive list of what all you can do, but some initial pointers to sensitize you about the power of Google Search console and what all you can achieve through it.
