“How Do You Live,” the latest project from iconic filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, has been announced by Studio Ghibli.
The feature-length film will be released in Japan on July 14, 2023. Studio Ghibli released a design of a bird-like creature to go along with the announcement, but no more information has been made public.
This film is reported to be based on Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1937 young adult novel of the same name, which follows a young man (played by Yoshino) as he travels the world and learns about spiritual development, financial hardship, and the purpose of life with the guidance of his uncle through the medium of a journal.
Oscar-winning director Hayao Miyazaki has long cited “How Do You Live?” as one of his favorite books, and in 2017 he confirmed his intention to adapt it for the big screen.
Miyazaki established Studio Ghibli in 1985; lately, the company opened a theme park based on Miyazaki’s works. The park includes rides and attractions inspired by films such as “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Princess Mononoke.”
