Warner Bros. Discovery announced last year that blockbuster director James Gunn and legendary producer Peter Safran had been chosen to lead the newly formed DC Studios, which would be responsible for all future DC film, TV, animation, and game productions. Since then, DC fans have wondered, in masse, what new film and television projects the company is developing.
Finally, Gunn and Safran have announced the first 10 interconnected DC Studios projects, which include five films and five HBO Max television series. All 10 of them take place in the same universe and will commonly feature the same characters. However, there will be films set outside of the same narrative, such as the already announced Joker: Folie à Deux from director Todd Phillips and Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman sequel.
Safran notes, “The DCU is a multiverse, but we’ll be focusing on one universe within that multiverse.” “And if something isn’t DCU, we’re going to make that very clear. So, strictly adult fare like Todd Phillips’ Joker, or kids animation like Teen Titans Go!, we’re going to make it very clear that those are DC Elseworlds, just the same way that they do it in the comic books.”
Safran adds, “What we’re beginning with today is the first chapter of our universe.” “That first chapter’s called ‘Gods and Monsters.’ Many of the following projects are already being worked on, but we’re remaining flexible and we’re going to adjust because we’re never going to put a project into production before the script is right. This is a general timeline, but there will be flexibility within it.”
Both Gunn and Safran stress that the order of the ten projects listed below may change at any time during development. However, the goal is to have two movies, and two HBO Max shows released per year.

DC Universe New Slate (Chapter 1- Monsters and Gods):
Creature Commandos – TV Animated Show
This was the sole animated show revealed for the schedule. Already, Gunn has written seven episodes for the show. Creature Commandos will star Rick Flagg Sr. (who will also feature in live-action, represented by his voice actor), Nina Mazursky, Doctor Phosphorus, Eric Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein (the protagonist), G.I. Robot, and Weasel.
Waller – TV Show
Viola Davis will continue to play the lead role in the Amanda Waller spinoff series. The show’s events will occur between Seasons 1 and 2 of Peacemaker. Why? Because Gunn is too busy with other things to devote attention to Peacemaker at the moment. Creators Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol) and Christal Henry (Watchmen) are at the helm.
Superman: Legacy – Feature Film
Gunn is presently writing the screenplay, and Safran hopes that the filmmaker will also helm the DC feature. Superman: Legacy, due in theatres on July 11, 2025, is not an origin narrative but instead follows Clark as he tries to juggle his heroic and human identities. The story will also examine how Superman shines as a model of compassion in a society that views such traits as antiquated.
Lanterns – TV Show
Lanterns will focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, though it is unclear if this is meant to be Greg Berlanti’s Green Lantern TV show. DC Studios claims that this is a mystery thriller in which the Green Lanterns act as super police on planet Earth. The plot of the Lanterns will eventually develop into an overarching tale about a timeless terror that will span both films and DC’s television shows.
The Authority – Feature Film
Gunn is currently developing a script for a film based on the Wildstorm mythology. The live-action film will introduce the DC brand to the established canon. DC Studios claims that The Authority examines antiheroes with noble intentions who are forced to resort to extreme measures because of the state of the world.
Paradise Lost – TV Show
In the vein of “Game of Thrones,” this prequel series to “Wonder Woman” explores the history of Themyscira before Diana Prince’s time. The political game of Themyscira and the methods a society of women employs to advance their status will be dissected in Paradise Lost
The Brave and the Bold – Feature Film
There will be a new actor taking on the role of Batman in this upcoming Batman and Robin story. Therefore, Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck will not be featured in this movie. The plot is based on Grant Morrison’s Batman run, in which Bruce learns that Damian Wayne is his son. Bruce, having been trained as an assassin, is now responsible for mentoring Damian. Batfamily members outside of Batman himself will make appearances in The Brave and the Bold. No information about which actors would play them or whether DC Studios will recycle familiar faces from prior films was provided.
Booster Gold – TV Show
A series centering on a futuristic tech superhero with impostor syndrome is in development. DC Studios has been in contact with an actor of unknown identity about playing the lead.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – Feature Film
Tom King’s current DC run will serve as the basis for a solo film adaptation of Supergirl, and King is integrally involved in the production. Supergirl was grown on a chunk of Krypton that had drifted away while Superman was nurtured on Earth by loving parents. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will delve into her past, including the heartbreaking deaths of numerous loved ones.
Swamp Thing – Feature Film
The DC Cinematic Universe is currently developing a film that will delve into the murky past of DC’s Swamp Thing. James Mangold is in talks with Warner Bros. Pictures to direct this feature film version of Swamp Thing.
